Edwin Smith and Julie Santos met at 8 years of age on Schooleys Mountain in New Jersey.
They grew up there together and have fond memories of walking miles down dirt roads, discovering natural springs in the back woods and swimming together in streams and spring fed ponds off the beaten path.
A few lots down from Ed's childhood home is a historical spot. In the early 1900's Schooleys Mountain was said to be one of the first and finest resort areas in the United States.
The mineral springs were known to be some of the purest in the world. The Dorincourt Hotel, a Schooleys Mountain Resort c. 1906, laid claim to such distinguished visitors as the Roosevelts, Astors, and Ulysses S. Grant.
We were very fortunate to grow up drinking this nice cold well water and it is indeed pretty good.
Edwin and Julie thought what could possibly go better with this pure wholesome water than some all natural skincare products? They established Schooleys Mountain Soap LLC in 2018 and created an online sustainable hygiene products store to compliment their soap shack.
Another reason they formed the business is Edwin has very sensitive skin and breaks out in rashes from most all things. It seemed the more research they did on store purchases, the more they learned about the true ingredients within the products.
The alcohols, dyes, detergents, and things like sodium sulfate, parabens, and phthalates used to artificially create bubbles.
Upon further inspection they discovered that store bought deodorants and creams were also laced with toxins; aluminum, synthetic fragrances, dyes and so many chemicals.
That's when they decided it was time to raise the BAR!
